Over half a million pounds was paid out to park-home owners last year to fix damage caused by frozen or burst pipes, according to Towergate.

Analysis by the specialist insurance broker of three years’ worth of its claims data revealed that in 2015 it paid out over £588,000 to park-home owners to cover the cost of escape of water damage.

The statistics also showed over the past three years the total number of claims has tripled, with park-home owners across the country claiming for £2,500 each on average.

On a regional level, the data suggests that owners in Gloucestershire are most at risk from escape of water with the county topping the list for the highest number of claims in the UK, followed by Hampshire and Kent.

Adam Summersby from Towergate Insurance, said: “As we enter the winter months and see temperatures plummet, park-home owners across the country face the very real risk of pipes freezing, or worse bursting, leaving their homes without running water or heating as the frost bites.

“Planning and preparation is key, especially over the Christmas break, and we urge park home owners to take measures to keep their homes protected this winter.”
