Homeowners travelling away from home on the May Bank Holiday weekend are warned to take the necessary precautions to prevent burglaries and property damage, according to Cheshire Building Society.
Cheshire said that homeowners should ensure all windows are closed and locked and any alarms set, which will help to prevent burglars getting in, as well as rain damage to interiors that could be exposed through an open window. All appliances should be switched off at the mains and any deliveries such as milk and papers should be canceled, otherwise they could alert thieves to the property being vacant.
