First-time buyers go for terraces

Terraced properties are the most popular property type with first-time buyers, according to Nationwide.

Research from the lender found that terraced properties - the second most popular property type in the UK - are the most popular property type among first-time buyers, accounting for 38% of sales in this category.

Terraced property prices have increased by 51% over the past five years, the fastest rate of price growth of all property types, Nationwide said. The average terraced property currently costs £149,668, while the average terraced property in London costs nearly twice this, at £294,543.

Nearly half of all terraced houses in the UK have three bedrooms, with 20% of new build-terraces having four or more bedrooms.
