With summer almost upon us, price comparison site Moneysupermarket is urging homeowners to ensure their insurance covers the value of their gardens.
The Bank Holiday this weekend means many Brits will be going away or sprucing up their gardens and entertaining outside.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at Moneysupermarket, said: “All providers differ on what is and isn’t included within your cover for gardens, and the amounts.
“A lawnmower or other expensive items such as a barbecue or heater in your garden can be easy targets for thieves. If you have a landscaped garden with expensive plants or small elaborate statues, you would also be well advised to check the amount of garden cover you have.
“My top five tips for the garden are to not leave expensive items lying around, read the small print of your policy so you know what is covered, make sure your shed has a good lock, install a security light as a deterrent to would-be thieves, and keep your receipts.”
