The number of Land Registry applications for property transactions in England and Wales fell in every single region in April, according to the latest official figures.

There were 52,000 fewer applications in April, compared to March, a 3.8% fall.

The 1.3m applications tracked by the Land Registry include first registrations, leases, transfers of part, dealings, official copies and searches for titles lodged by Land Registry account customers.

The biggest falls were in the North and the North West, where applications plunged by 6.6% and 6.2% respectively. Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire & The Humber weren’t far behind.

Even property hotspot Greater London suffered a 4.5% drop in applications, although applications in the South East fell by just 1.7%.

The Isle of Scilly was the only area to see an increase – from 44 applications to 53.
