Principality Building Society plans to take over nine former Halifax agency offices spread across Wales, and open them up as its own branches.

The expansion will increase the society’s network across Wales from 55 branches to 64. The society said it was committed to “continually invest in the high streets of Wales”, and that opening the new counters will enable it to bridge the gaps in its branch network.

The new offices will be opened in Bargoed, Newcastle Emlyn, Abertillery, Ystradgynlais, Treharris, Ross-on-Wye, Talbot Green, Caernarfon and Colwyn Bay.

Graeme Yorston, Principality’s chief operating officer, said:

“Whilst a number of financial institutions have opted to cut costs by withdrawing from local high streets, we have decided that now is the time to invest in our retail network to get closer to our communities and engage with customers on a personal level.”

He added that it was a “fitting way” to mark the society’s 150th anniversary and showed its “unwavering support” for the Welsh economy and “ongoing commitment to the people of Wales.”
