A landlord in Stratford, East London is offering a room for just £1 a month – in exchange for IT skills.

Landlord Adam Mughal, 32, a full-time city worker, is offering the room in his property in exchange for help to develop a web application he is working on. Applicants must have a high level of web or mobile development skills.

The offer, posted by flat sharing website Easy Roommate, has proved tempting for London renters with more than 1,200 people responding.

With the average double room in the capital renting for £692, it’s not surprising the advert has had such as positive response.

Easy Roommate says there is an increasing trend whereby Landlords are offering a significantly reduced rent in exchange for a service they need. Services can range from doing the house chores, giving language lessons to looking after pets.

The practice off offering cheap rent in exchange for specific skills is more prevalent on the continent but experts say it is beginning to pick up in the UK. The most common request is for a lodger to assist and elderly person with chores.
