RBS mortgage loan book tops £100bn for first time

The bank completed £4.4bn of residential mortgages in January, February and March, a fifth higher than the same period last year.

The bank said this level of lending would give it a market share of 9.5%.

Net new lending of £1.2bn took RBS’ UK mortgage portfolio to more than £100bn for the first time.

A number of lenders have released first quarter results this week with Lloyds Banking Group competing £9.8bn in mortgage lending while Santander boasted increased lending figures.

RBS announced profits of £1.6bn for the first quarter of 2014, far surpassing expectations and sending shares soaring more than 10%.
