Teachers Building Society has announced a further expansion of its lending area with all borrowers in Wiltshire now able to access the mutual’s mortgages.

The building society, which lends to teachers and education professionals across England, Scotland and Wales, had previously offered mortgages to all residents in its home county of Dorset.

This was extended to Dorset in November when Mortgage Solutions reported the lender was planning further expansion.

Teachers has now announced it will lend to customers of any occupation in its neighbouring county of Wiltshire, saying growth of its regional customer base was a key part of its growth plans.

Figures from the mutual’s latest annual results showed it had increased yearly lending 27% in 2013.

Colin Dorman, national account manager at Teachers Building Society, said: “We have seen a dramatic increase in local residents using the Society for residential and Buy to Let mortgages in 2013.

“To capitalise on this success, we will now include residents in Wiltshire too. This move takes us closer to our goal of supporting the local Wessex region in attracting non educational business.”

Teachers Building Society lends through brokers affiliated with the Legal & General Mortgage Club and Mortgage Intelligence network and recently opened up its criteria in a bid to meet the changing education landscape.
