The number of people using online property searches to buy or rent a home rose by a fifth in the third quarter.

Email4Property.co.uk revealed that 86% of its online users were looking to rent property, and a further 14% were looking to buy.

The overall interest shown in the property market, via the website, increased by 18.6% in the third quarter.

Head of Marketing, Steve Lees said: “July traditionally marks the start of the annual summer slowdown, but users have bucked this trend, with the three months to October the busiest we’ve seen so far this year for sales and lettings.

“However, the latest figures show that the rental market is far more active with demand greater than ever. Our agents offering lettings are reporting that demand continues to outstrip supply, with landlords able to increasingly let back-to-back, avoiding empty periods.”

He added: “In the face of fierce competition from would-be tenants, it’s now more important than ever for customers looking to rent to stay one step ahead.”
