Homeowners looking to sell their property should remove avocado bathrooms and plaster over Artex ceilings.

Doing so could dramatically increase a property’s value, a property developer has claimed.

Property firm Quanta Group told Mail Online that green bathrooms and old fashioned ceilings were big turn-offs for buyers.

Other property no-nos include strip lighting, woodchip wallpaper and tired kitchens.

Edward Stevenson of Quanta Group told the website: “Fashions come and go in interior design, and many styles from previous decades clearly look out of touch in 2015.

“But don’t be put off by avocado bathroom suites and crazy paving pathways that you might feel were last fashionable 30 years ago.

“These outdated fashions are often exactly the sort of things to look for, for the cost of replacing them can add up to four times as much to the property’s sale price.

“For example, if you spend £5,000 on removing and replacing 70s and 80s fixtures, you can potentially increase the worth of the property by £15,000 to £20,000 – so in effect you’ve trebled or quadrupled your money.

“We’ve turned round over 500 properties nationwide in recent years, and this is exactly the kind of refurbishment we’ll do to increase value.”
