House prices outpace flat prices
The prices of houses are rising faster than the prices of flats, according to figures obtained by the BBC.
The Land Registry research indicated that flat prices in England have not grown at the same rate as house prices in 2007, and that in some areas flat prices have in fact fallen.
The BBC report suggested that this may be due to oversupply of new flats in areas other than London – the capital alone had shown growth in all property types.
However, this downturn had not yet affected the lettings market, with estate agents in Northern England reporting that demand for one- and two-bedroom flats remained strong.
