1Fixed

Paying a fixed rate of interest on your mortgage for anything from one to 25 years provides invaluable peace of mind.

2Interest-only

Interest-only mortgages allow you to just repay the interest and no capital, but these deals are now hard to get.

3Variable

With a standard variable rate mortgage, the rate you pay can go up and down at the lender's discretion, subject to terms and conditions.

4Tracker

Tracker mortgages track the Base Rate set by the Bank of England at a pre-determined margin for the period of the deal agreed.

5Flexible

A flexible mortgage allows you to overpay, underpay and take payment holidays and there are no Early Repayment Charges.

6Discount

With a discounted mortgage you receive a discount off the lender's standard variable rate for an agreed period of time.

7Fees

The fees borrowers typically have to pay when taking out and paying off a mortgage have tripled in the last decade.

8Offset

This type of deal allows you to offset your current and savings accounts against your mortgage and pay interest on a lower balance.
