A popular online property portal says it is fighting back after losing more than a quarter of its agents in a year.

Property website said that it is now winning back estate agents and their listings after losing business to new rival OnTheMarket.

The new firm was launched earlier this year by some of the UK’s biggest estate agency groups. However its rules allow members to list on only one other property portal.

Many firms opted for Rightmove over Zoopla, meaning the latter lost around a quarter of its listings. During this period Rightmove increased its listings by 10%.

However, Zoopla is now fighting back and says it has added 213 new branches to its site. This has taken the total number of firms to 12,556.

Chief executive Alex Chesterman said the business had been boosted by the purchase of uSwitch and it would continue to fight to bring more listings to the website.

“With the acquisition of uSwitch now complete and the business performing well, we are focused on developing our combined services to provide consumers with a single resource for all their property needs which will serve to further enhance our user engagement and create a greater competitive advantage for our advertisers,” he said.

“We have come a long way since our launch just seven years ago, but there still remains so much more to do that I am incredibly excited about. I am delighted to be able to fully commit to [Zoopla] for the long-term and deliver the growth strategy of the group.”
